THE COUNTDOWN IS ON… ARE YOU READY?

Wowsers, that came around fast! Only a few days until entries open for the 2018 edition of the Whai Ora Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race, and we are so excited to get buried to our elbows in all the nitty gritty which will make the 2018 course and event bigger and better than ever before.

WHAT’S NEW IN 2018?

New Warmer date! Friday 16th to Sunday 18th March.

New destination! We’ll be exploring the magical Whakatane/Ohope region – ancient forests, meandering rivers, rolling farmland, expansive estuaries and a wild and wonderful coastline.

New disciplines? Everyone will be kayaking in 2018 and there will be some added water-based adventures for long course teams: coasteering and possibly swimming?

New adventure film screening? We’re excited to have the Big Bike Film Night – (http://www.bigbikefilmnight.nz/) helping us to share with you some amazing stories of women out being mega-adventurous around the world.

Hoodies or Jackets? Yes – we’ve stepped up the free merchandise for 2018 and are organising snugly hoodies or cool jackets for all team members.

New mystery activities? Sorry, not giving anything away here J

What else? We have some pretty cool ideas in the pipeline… you’ll just have to come along for the ride to find out what they are.

WHAT’S STAYING?

Same Early Bird Entry fee as 2017! Yep, while it sometimes seems everything in life just keeps getting more expensive, we really want this event to be accessible to as many people as possible, so get in early to lock in your entry at our Early Bird entry rate.

Yoga! Whether it’s a pre-race limber-up or post-race recovery stretch, we love having Kristin and her yogis on board and are stoked that they’ll be back in 2018.

Race format? We’re going unsupported again in 2018. Feedback from 2017 suggested that it can be tricky for teams to find support crew for big events and we want it to be easy for out-of-region teams to compete. But we also have some great ideas for how to make the 2018 event a bit more spectator friendly – news to come on this front.

Course length? While the 2018 course will be completely new, we expect winning times across each course to be similar to 2017. However, the balance across the various disciplines will be different and we’ll be announcing more about this in coming weeks/months. The fastest short course team should expect to finish in 3-4 hours, medium course 6-7 hours, and long course 9-10 hours.

What else? Lots of good bits like the expo, bulging race boxes, and all the trimmings for a great weekend away with your girlfriends.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW?

Event date? 16th – 18th March 2018

Location and accommodation? We are heading to the Whakatane/Ohope region. We strongly suggest that teams book accommodation early to avoid missing out or finding that the nearest available bed is in Tauranga. While we can’t give away much about the course, we can advise that any accommodation in the Whakatane or Ohope township and surrounds would be suitable.

Entries open 7am, 1st June 2017. Get in quick and register your team here.

WHAT YOU NEED TO HAVE SORTED BEFORE THE EVENT ENTRY RELEASE

Firstly you’ll need to create a profile on EventPlus (our online entry providers). This will significantly speed up your time to submit your team entry when entries open online.

Then you’ll need to have a few details at hand so you can complete and submit your entry smartly once entries open. It’s OK if you don’t have all team members confirmed – we just need the team captains – and you can update details for other members as you lock them in.

The minimum fields you’ll need to complete include:

  • Team name
  • Course: Short, Medium or Long
  • Team Captain – First name, Surname, DOB, Address, Mobile, Email, Hoodie or Jacket size, Medical conditions, Emergency contact name and mobile
  • Credit card (for payment)

If you as team captain are undecided on a team name or your Hoodie or Jacket size (Note: we are still waiting on a size chart), this is no problem, as you can always log back into your EventPlus profile and edit these fields.

In respect to your teammates details, if you have not got all of these at hand just put TBC in the text field or 1234 in the number fields, and again you can log-on to update these when you have them in hand.
