Race day creeps closer… seven and a half months and counting.

LOOKING FOR A TEAM, TEAMMATE OR TRAINING BUDDY?

Simple – we’ve created a Facebook post designed to provide a thread for connecting with other Spirited Women. Whether you want to get in a team; you need to fill a vacant slot in your team, or all your team mates all live elsewhere and you just can’t find the motivation to train alone! … your answer may not be far away. And from the early flurry of messages, it’s working.

With 360 teams and 1,440 women now registered, and each one of those connected to more outgoing women, it’s clear there is a big community out there filled with potential teammates, training buddies, and new best friends. Reach out!

If you’re a Long Course team with a bib number in the list below, you’ve got just a few days left to redeem your free kit promotional voucher (emailed to team captains on 15th June) for your team. Last orders must be received by midnight 31 July – so don’t miss out!

 HOODIE SIZINGS COMING SOON

We’re working on the final design for some super cool hoodies which will be free to all women entrants in next year’s race packs. We’ll soon be asking all team captains to confirm the sizes for their team-mates. It will be important that you do this before the cut-off date, as we will be ordering to size and won’t be able to guarantee any size changes come race day. Keep an eye on Facebook for this announcement, and we’ll also make sure details are in the next newsletter.

MASSAGE ANYONE – WE WANT YOUR THOUGHTS

Picture this… You and your amazing team of spirited women have just completed a BIG day out on a (potentially) gruelling adventure race. You cross the finish line with cries of joy, high fives, hugs and a sense of deep satisfaction. You get handed a well-earned glass of bubbles which you consume with enthusiasm.

What next? How about a soothing and refreshing 15-20 minute back or leg massage to help you recover by flushing out toxins and increasing the blood flow to your tired muscles. Not only can this help you recover much faster, but it can provide a big psychological lift. Once you’re off the table you’ll feel ready to continue with the post event festivities!

Please click here to answer the super quick 2 question survey to give us an indication if massage is something that you and your team would be interested in. Thank you.

(Please note that massages will be charged at the usual “post event flush” rate of $1 per minute per person).

I’M GETTING NERVOUS… WHAT’S IN STORE FOR US IN 2018?

How much mountain biking will there be this year? What about paddling? And is there any special mandatory equipment we’ll need?

We know you have lots of questions about what to expect this year and how best to prepare for the event. The team is working hard on shaping a really spectacular and exciting course for 2018, and we’ll be releasing more information over the next couple of months. We’ll also be working with our partners to give you every chance to be prepared – with paddle “come try” sessions around the country, navigation and MTB skills workshops, and more advice from our wonderful coaching and nutrition partners. Details to come in August newsletter and on Facebook.

ANNOUNCING THE WINNER OF THE ALTERNO FOUNDATION SPONSORED
TEAM FOR 2018

For the third year running the Alterno Foundation is sponsoring a team of newbies to take part in the 2018 Whai Ora Spirited Women – All Women’s Adventure Race

Over the past sponsored teams have done a brilliant job in publishing tales of their journey through monthly blogs, which you can read on the event website preparation page here.

This year Alterno Foundation is happy to announce that we are sponsoring Megan Flint and teammates – (pictured below).

Megan was stoked to get the good news over the weekend, writing back… “We are very excited to be selected as the Alterno Foundation sponsored team for the Whai Ora Spirited Women Adventure Race 2018. As beginner adventurers we are looking forward to sharing our journey with other women in the hope that others might commiserate with us in our failures, laugh at our naivety and celebrate our shared successes.

Our team name is ‘The Alterno Accidentals’ and our biggest success will be making it to the start line in March with every team member in one piece!

 PARTING WORDS

The Whai Ora Spirited Women’s team has had a big month and are preparing for an even bigger one ahead. Working hard on the event has got us thinking outside the square and opened new doors of opportunity. We are on the cusp of a number of pieces of exciting news which is sure to please. Stay tuned to the event Facebook page to catch it, otherwise be sure to read August e-news for all the details.

Kindest regards…  Neil, Katrine & Heather.
